The process of scanning and electronically transmitting OCR data from a bill to the bill payment application, and then on to the bill payment processor for authorization.
The
OCR data consists of information such as customer account and payment
amount. There are many benefits to electronically capturing images
and OCR data in the bill payment process.
Benefits to Merchants
- Reduced processing time and associated costs
- Increased accuracy
- Increased traffic flow through the merchant's store
Here's how it works
- The consumer presents a bill stub to the agent.
- The agent then selects the
Biller in the bill pay application, and "swipes" the bill stub through RDM's EC6000i scanner.
- The bill pay application tells the
EC6000i scanner which pre-configured OCR zones to target on the bill stub.
- The scanner will then read the OCR data and transmit the relevant information back to the bill payment application.
- The data will populate the appropriate fields in the bill payment application, and all necessary information is transmitted to the bill payment processor for authorization.
- The bill payment processor will either accept or decline the transaction.
- If approved the consumer will pay the bill payment agent and the bill pay transaction is complete.
